Harvesting Potatoes from a Potato Tower

Harvesting Potatoes from a Potato TowerWe made a potato tower two years ago. We planted it with seed potatoes, added soil as the plants grew, and then proceeded to forget about harvesting them.

This year the plants started to grow again, so we decided to leave them alone and see what happened. The potatoes from last year continued to grow and when the plants died back we harvested our crop! I can only imagine how many we would have gotten, had we done a better job of tending to them. :)

If you want to make your own potato tower, follow this link: Making a Stackable Potato Tower

Are you sure it's a good idea to wash them? I thought it was better to leave some dirt on as a protection against greening. Also have read the flavour is better. With potatoes I have a grading system. From large and medium stored in bags or boxes to golf ball, marble and pea size, stored in icecream containers but loosly covered.

You can just soak the small ones and give a little rub which makes them very useful for adding to dishes when they are the same size.
