Photo Description
This picture is all I have left of one of my favorite hibiscus. I'm sorry to say I lost it two winters ago. I rooted a cutting from a neighbor's bush. The neighbor has since cut down the bush.

The flower was born on a Hibiscus Syriacus shrub. Not as popular today, this shrub was often found in older gardens. It's owners may not have been aware their shrub was a hibiscus, as it was usually called 'Rose Of Sharon' and sometimes 'Althea'.

In times past, I didn't care for Rose of Sharon. Most all varieties bore single, self colored blooms resembling the hollyhock. Thanks to breeders, we now have many double flowering varieties, and among those, many that are multicolored.

Unlike other Hibiscus, Hibiscus Syriacus is a hardy, leaf losing woody shrub.
