Hole-Punch St. Patrick's Day Art - finished pot of gold and cloverIt's always exciting for children to try something different when creating art. Their eyes light up when they see new materials in the art center. And my students always really enjoyed using hole punches to make or accentuate their crafts. For St. Patrick's day, you can make a pot of gold, a four-leaf clover, or a rainbow. The hardest part is punching all the holes, but kids like doing that too! And all that punching helps to strengthen those little hand muscles. After that, each piece is easy to complete.

Hole-Punch St. Patrick's Day Art - supplies

Steps:

  1. Draw or trace a pot on black paper and a clover on white paper. Cut them out.
  2. Hole-Punch St. Patrick's Day Art - draw your pot and clover on paper and cut out

  3. Use the hole puncher to punch out yellow and green punches. You can always punch more if you need them.
  4. Hole-Punch St. Patrick's Day Art - punch out yellow and green paper punches

  5. Glue yellow punches along the top of the pot to represent gold. I felt that the pot of gold was too simple, so I glued on a small shamrock out of green punches.
  6. Hole-Punch St. Patrick's Day Art - add yellow punches to top of pot for gold, you can make a shamrock too

  7. Spread glue all over the four-leaf clover. Sprinkle green punches on top until you feel it is complete. Allow to dry.
  8. Hole-Punch St. Patrick's Day Art - spread glue on the clover and sprinkle green punches all over

  9. Now you need punches for every color of the rainbow (ROY G BIV). I used pink and purple to represent indigo and violet.
  10. Hole-Punch St. Patrick's Day Art - make rainbow colored punches

  11. Use the glue stick to draw each rainbow layer. Add all of the colored punches. This rainbow isn't exactly uniform, but it still turned out to be a cute craft.
  12. Hole-Punch St. Patrick's Day Art - use glue stick and punches to create your rainbow
