The first question would be - what type of item are you wanting to "dry clean"?
There are some materials that do not do well when home cleaned - no matter the method. Silk is one example because it loses its crispness and is very difficult to iron. Some people say they have cleaned leather at home but this I have never tempted.

One very important fact; I would never try any of this on an expensive item or one that has large or oily spots.
when there are things you want clean or deodorized but can't wash them or don't have time etc, especially if they're things like heavy coats and shoes or fancy fabrics, you can turn them inside out, hang them by a south facing window on a really hot day and really let them get hot. The sun will deodorize and kill 'bad things', and unless items are really soiled, sometimes it is all you need. THe only drawback is if you do this too much or for too long the colour bleaches away.
Baking soda is always a great deodorizer that can be used.
