I would wait around 6 to 8 weeks before doing this again. One problem you may have had is not the cap but the time you left the solution on your hair or you forgot to put on the the second solution after the hair was rinsed out. Perming your hair at home is very difficult and not really recommended because you can do a lot of damage to your hair. I would like to advise you to see professional help in perming your hair a second time to make sure you get the results you are looking for.
The safe way is to wait 8 to 10 weeks notated by professionals. There are reasons for this like, hair lost, dry/brittle, scalp injuries.
Since I have no experience with perms I can only answer with information from research.
It seems the cap is used for your body heat to do the processing.
There seems to be a wide range of opinions about how long to wiat to re-perm your hair but I'm sure a lot would depend on the condition of your hair.
Some advice says 1 to 2 weeks is long enough (if hair is in good condition).
