I never pay more than $1.00 for 100% whole wheat bread. I frequently pay a lot less. When I find a good deal, I stock up. I recently learned that if you put a paper towel in the bread wrapper before you freeze it, and leave it in place after thawing, the bread will be as soft and fresh tasting as fresh. It works for any kind of bread. You can let the towels dry out and use again, or compost them.

I'll have to try that. I get my gluten free bread from Trader Joes and there is not one close by so I buy several loaves and keep them in the freezer.
I even keep the loaf I'm using in the freezer as I'm the only one that eats it and it makes it last much longer.
I sometimes do the same, and just thaw out the slices I need.
I buy bread in bulk and freeze it, too. can't wait to give this a try.

It works so well. No more freezer burn or funny taste.
I found that keeping my bread in the fridge prevents it from molding and lasts a long time without waste. I also was having problems with English muffins molding almost as soon as I got them. I finally discovered that the cardboard sleeve they were in was the culprit. So now I take it out of the package and just put the muffins back in the plastic wrap and no more problems with mold.
