I am a restless sleeper. Keeping the bed covers straight is a big problem. I might awaken cold with the spread in the floor, the blanket in a wad at my head and the top sheet at my feet.
I need some way to keep the covers aligned. I have an idea in mind but need some help with the details. Imagine a notebook, say a three ring binder holding four sheets of paper, The four sheets represent a top sheet, two blankets and a spread. The rings going through the holes in the paper keep it aligned.
I want to align the covers, cut four or five holes on one side through all layers, just like the paper, and then put a binder ring or cord through each. The covers could be easily separated for washing.
I've no doubt it would work well but I'm worried about the holes fraying. I'm thinking of some kind of metal grommet for each quarter size hole in each cover.
I don't know where to get the grommets and I don't know if there's a type that I can snap or hammer in place and doesn't require a tool for setting the grommets.
Any ideas, anybody?

I would get a larger bed cover than you need. This solved the problem for me
My husband was a toss & turn sleeper, always rolling away from me and taking the covers with him. I solved the problem two ways. First, I swapped out double bed size top sheet, blanket and bedspread for a queen size in all of them. Then I bought a package of "Sheet Garters" or "Sheet Suspenders" --they are elastic straps with a metal snap-down clip on each end, and hooked them onto the middle and foot area of MY side of the covers and then to the bottom edge of the mattress.
Use a bed cover that is a lot larger than the usual size, at the bottom of the bed tuck the cover underneath the mattress , pinning each side with a large safety pin to the mattress, do the same half way up the bed, leaving room for you to get in.
Maybe a weighted blanket a size larger than your bed would help.
I really wanted some input on the grommet idea. My covers are the right size and I want them free to move as I move. It's just that I want them to move all together as one and not get separated from each other. I cannot sleep 'tucked in' in any way.
I have accomplished this before by putting several large clothes pins from top to bottom on the far edge of the covers. The pins tend to come lose and it's a hassle. If the far edge is pinned together, the rest will take care of itself.
Think back to the pages in a 3 ring binder, If you lift 4 of the pages, they all move as one because of the rings going through the holes in them.

Grommets WILL work, but I would use smaller ones than what you would use on a tarp. Something like smaller eyelets. These can be purchased through JoAnn Fabrics.
I'm not sure the Velcro would work unless it was fairly large pieces and I don't have a machine, period. I too was thinking that the grommets should be smaller than those used on a tarp.
I'm glad you can envision what I'm trying to do here. Thank you for suggesting JoAnne Fabrics. I will talk with them. I'm sure they can advise whether I need a smaller grommet or an eyelet.

You could also try the simplest solution....big diaper pins or even those longer pins that hold a pleated skirt close--- think Scottish kilt. Just pin all the layers together.
I would suggest a weighed blanket, one size larger than your original bed covers.
