Keeping Electric Stove Drip Pans Clean?

Bronze Feedback Medal for All Time! 146 Feedbacks

I'm trying to decide what's more practical (read as thrifty) for my stove drip pans. Should I buy more disposable aluminum ones or line the pans myself with foil? Opinions please.

I wash my drip pans myself. It's the thriftiest of all. I think lining the pans would foil would be the next cheapest.

Dont put aluminum foil drip pans on anywhere on an electric stove. It causes the stove to not heat properly and is a fire hazard.

At my grandparents' house, they line theirs with aluminum foil. It works out so that my grandmother does not have to wash them.

It depends which option weighs out better for you.

Washing periodically to keep clean (water bill) vs. buying foil and changing it out after a couple of weeks.

Disposable drip pans could get expensive and they appear to be very "flimsy".

  • If you clean your drip pans on a fairly regular basis it is not a big job but if someone lets grease etc cake/burn on the drip pans it gets to be more work when cleaning them and sometimes they will not come completely clean.
  • Just take them out a couple of times a month and let them soak in hot dish water (even overnight is good) and then just scrub lightly.
  • You can also run them through your dishwasher as this usually does a good job (maybe not caked on grime).

  • Softscrub or Barkeepers Friend does a good job for some of the grime.
  • Some people use foil to cover their pans but that is probably just a matter of choice as hand or dishwasher is certainly the best and the least expensive.
