Make Groundhogs Relocate

Here's what we do to drive groundhogs away from structures (house, shed, propane tank, etc.): Dump dirty kitty litter into the hole. The groundhog leaves the area for sweeter smelling options and no critter is harmed! Try it!

I'm going to try this trick. Hope it works. My groundhog is too fat to fit in my have a heart trap. Lol.

I had a mama groundhog living in a burrow under my ground level deck. Every summer, for FIVE years, without fail, she birthed four to six pups (chucklings). I can tell you from my experience, moth balls do nothing. Cayenne pepper does nothing. After trying multiple home remedies through those years, I finally splurged $40 on a live trap from Rural King. Don't bother trying to camouflage it. It's not worth your time. Ground hogs are naturally inquisitive. The key is to put on some latex gloves (you don't want to leave your scent on the trap).

Take a chunk of cantaloupe, open the trap and rub the chunk of cantaloupe on the bottom entrance and several inches in, then toss the chunk on the other side of the "trip" plate. Set your trap where your groundhogs regularly travel. Most of the time they wear a noticeable path in your yard, not far from their burrow. This year (2023) I caught all four pups in two days and finally caught mama. I relocated them a couple miles away. Five years of trial and error, I'm finally groundhog free.
