3D Kirigami Paper Stars - two stars, one yellow and one orange This is a simple way to make 3D stars from paper with a technique called kirigami. Kirigami is similar to origami except it uses some cutting with scissors, whereas origami is just folding. These stars make fantastic decorations on their own, or hanging from string.

Total Time: 10 minutes per star

Supplies:

origami, craft, or construction paper
scissors

Steps:

Cut your paper into perfect squares. I used 7" x 7" sheets, 1 per star.

Fold a sheet in half horizontally.

Fold the top left corner down into a triangle. Unfold the triangle.

Fold the bottom left corner up into a triangle. Unfold.

You will see a folded X on the left side of the rectangle.

Fold the top right corner in so it hits the middle of the X.

Now fold that same bit outwards so it's flush with the line fold on the right.

Bring the left upper corner down so it makes a flush line with the spine.

Press down firmly so it all holds in place.

Fold the triangle on the left side under the right side.

Now cut across and into the little triangle on the left, all the way through to the other side. Remove all the bits of paper from the right side.

Unfold the triangles to find this almost-star shape.

Now reinforce your creases so the main bits of the star are folded down and the pieces between are folded up. Alternating them gives the beautiful 3D pop.
