Fingerprint Christmas LightsThis craft is simple, easy, and fun for kids and adults of all ages! You can create these lights for handmade Christmas cards, gift tags, T-shirts, or in the classroom. You can paint them on cardstock and place in a frame or use a canvas. They would make excellent gifts for parents, grandparents, or teachers.

Total Time: 10 minutes to create and a few hours to dry

Yield: 1

Supplies:

  • finger/poster paint (any colors)
  • black Sharpie marker
  • paint palette or paper plate
  • laminator with sheets (optional)
  • frame (optional)

Steps:

  1. First take the black Sharpie marker and draw a line across the page with swirls in it. Start at one corner and go diagonally to the other corner. Then draw little squares along the line to serve as the bottom part of each light bulb. Make sure to space them out to leave room for the fingerprints. I left about an inch of space between each square. Children would need less space.

  3. Choose the color pattern you want for the lights. Dip your finger in your first color choice and place the print on a few squares. I chose orange and spread them out by five spaces each.

  5. Alternate different paint colors and repeat the process used with the first color. Make sure to rinse your finger between each color! You can make a pattern or just add prints randomly. Allow to dry. You can add a greeting, like Merry Christmas! You can also cut to fit a frame or laminate if you choose.
