My local dollar store had duct tape for 50 cents a roll so I had to get some in holiday colours to craft with, of course! They're great for decorations or sticking onto a wrapped gift. Here is how to make a simple, but cute, poinsettia plant with duct tape, paper, and a stick.

This craft only used a fraction of the duct tape so you can make several. Enjoy!

Total Time: 70 minutes

Yield: 1 poinsettia plant

Supplies:

  • 1 sheet card stock
  • pen or pencil
  • scissors
  • 2 sheets paper
  • red duct tape
  • green duct tape
  • 1 bamboo stick
  • 1 small piece of yellow wire

Steps:

  1. Freehand draw five leaves of different shapes and sizes onto your card stock.

  3. Cut out the leaves.
  4. Place the leaves on one sheet of paper and trace them several times. Repeat on the second sheet of paper.
  5. Flip the traced papers over.
  6. Neatly cover the backside of one traced paper in red duct tape.
  7. Cover the other traced paper's backside in green duct tape.

  9. Flip over to the white traced sides and cut out all the leaves.
  10. Take your stick and tape the red leaves on, starting with the smallest leaves on the top of the stick, leaving a tiny portion of the stick exposed.
  11. Work your way down and around the stick with the bigger leaves.
  12. Then start taping on the green leaves underneath.

  14. Wrap your piece of wire around the bottom of the stick to make a springy spiral.
  15. Slip the spiral onto the top of the stick.
  16. You can keep the stick long and stick it into a vase, or cut the stick and use it as a decoration.
