Simple Heart Garland - garland hanging on a mantelHere is a budget friendly and simple heart garland you can make. This is not just geared for Valentine's Day, but can be used for any occasion like an engagement party, wedding, birthday, or even a gender reveal party. Just switch out the tissue paper colors and ribbon to appropriate theme!

Total Time: 30 minutes

Supplies:

  • kraft paper cardstock
  • tissue paper
  • gluestick
  • ribbon
  • heart puncher
  • scissors
  • paper cutter
Simple Heart Garland - supplies

Steps:

  1. I have kraft cardstock paper measuring 4.5" x 6.5", but I trimmed 1" off so it's now 3.5" x 6.5".
  2. Simple Heart Garland - paper cutter with a sheet of the kraft paper

Simple Heart Garland - trim to size

  3. Using a heart puncher, I punched a heart at one end. (If you do not have a heart puncher, you can freehand cut out hearts). Repeat process until you have enough pieces to make your garland.
  4. Simple Heart Garland - punch out a heart at the bottom of the rectangle

Simple Heart Garland - punch next to cardstock rectangle with heart cut out

Simple Heart Garland - sheets with heart cutouts on top of red tissue paper

  5. Cut out tissue paper squares bigger than the punched out heart.
  6. Simple Heart Garland - heart shape laying over the tissue to determine size of tissue needed

  7. You can keep your tissue paper smooth, or for a more texture look- I crumbled all the tissue paper into a ball and unraveled each sheet.
  8. Simple Heart Garland - red tissue paper behind the heart cut out

Simple Heart Garland - red tissue squares crumpled to add texture

Simple Heart Garland - flattened out red tissue squares

  9. Glue tissue paper squares to the back of the heart for each piece.
  10. Simple Heart Garland - tissue glued to the back of the paper behind the heart cut out

  11. Fold the cardstock in half.
  12. Simple Heart Garland - fold the cardstock in half making a square

  13. Using ribbon of your choice (I went with a heart theme), glue the card to the string and then glue the card shut. Space out evenly, mine is 1" and continue until you are finished. Then it is ready to hang! Perfect for your fireplace mantel, party tables, house entrance, etc.
  14. Simple Heart Garland - place the folded square over a length of ribbon, glue to the ribbon evenly spaced

Simple Heart Garland - once glued to the ribbon, glue the cardstock shut

Simple Heart Garland - two of the heart squares
