Male Black Widow in the Garden

Photo Description
I took some photos of a beautifully marked male black widow. The females are the ones which are venomous--actually more venomous than a rattlesnake. This one is enjoying the day, hiding under an overturned pot. I rarely see male black widows, probably because the females eat them after mating, hence their name, black widow.

The females have an hourglass red figure on their backs. They must really love being single. ;) Moral of the story--wear gloves in the garden and enjoy the wildlife!
