Milo Cake Pops

A plate of decorated cake pops.Milo is not just a chocolate energy drink. When you ran out of cocoa, try using Milo. It wouldn't taste exactly the same but trust me it tastes so good. I've tried using Milo for cupcakes. Then I decided to just make it into cake pops.

Ingredients:

*Milo can be found at speciality international or Asian stores. If you cannot find it, Ovaltine is sometimes suggested as a substitute.

  • Cake
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 60 gram sachet sachet of Milo*
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • Coating
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • Food coloring of your choice
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 Tbsp condensed milk

Steps:

    Cake

    1. Sift all dry ingredients for cake. Mix them to incorporate.
    2. Adding milo to the batter ingredients.
       
    3. Add egg, oil, and milk then mix well until combined.
    4. Adding all ingredients to the batter.
       
    5. Pour into cupcake pan or simply cake pan.
    6. Bake at 180 degrees C (350 F) for 20 - 30 minutes.
    7. Three baked milo cupcakes.

    Coating

    1. Place white chocolate in a glass bowl. Melt over pot of boiling water over low heat. Add 1 tbsp butter and whisk until smooth and fully melted.
    2. Do the same with the semi sweet chocolate.
    3. If you wish to add color. Place a portion of white chocolate in a separate bowl and put a drop of food coloring. Mix to blend the coloring with the white chocolate

    Make the Cake Pops

    1. Crush the cake with a fork or with your clean hands.
    2. A bowl of baked cupcakes.
       
      Mixing up the baked cakes.
       
    3. Pour a tablespoon or two on the crushed cake.
    4. Adding condensed milk to the cake mixture.
       
    5. Mix very well.

    7. Scoop a spoonful of the mixture and form into a ball.
    8. Scooping up a small amount of cake.
       
      Rolling the cake pops into a ball.
       
    9. Take a lollipop stick and dip it into the melted chocolate.
    10. Dipping the cake pop into the topping.
       
    11. Poke the cake ball with the straw.
    12. Attaching the cake pop to a stick.
       
    13. Dip it back into the chocolate to coat.
    14. Dipping the cake pop in the topping.
       
    15. Drizzle with a combination of colorful choco melts.

    Thanks for the recipe. We don't have access to Milo in the U.S. very easily but I bet someone could use cocoa powder instead or any cake recipe as the base.
