  3. On a piece of paper, arrange the decor and embellishments. Take a picture of the design to use as a pattern while in the process of gluing the design to the journal.
  4. Mixed Media Journal - arrange the embellishments on a sheet of paper and take a photo to use when attaching them to the journal

  5. Gesso scraps of burlap, lace, fabric, etc. onto the journal. Allow to dry. Begin gluing the decor to the journal, leaving out the embellishments that you don't want painted. Let dry. Apply another layer of gesso over surface and let dry.
  6. Mixed Media Journal - apply fabric scraps using gesso

Mixed Media Journal - glue other embellishments on to the journal, allow to dry

  7. Using a mixture of water and your choice of colors of paint, fill a spray bottle half full, with half water and half paint, using one spray bottle per color.
Mist spray one color of paint at a time on the journal in the areas where you want the color. Let dry between colors. Use as many other colors of paint as you desire and repeat the process. Let dry.
  8. Mixed Media Journal - spray with a mixture of paint and water and allow to dry

  9. Add metallic paint to parts where you want to have a metal look. If adding wording, apply 3D Modge Podge (following directions and allowing to dry) the wording or the stickers to give a three dimensional look. Glue onto journal.
  10. Mixed Media Journal - add metallic paint where desired

Mixed Media Journal - letters on the spine

  11. Spray varnish the project. Apply glitter immediately so it will stick to varnished surface. When dry, using glue, add the other embellishments.
  12. Mixed Media Journal - spray with varnish and add glitter immediately then add the embellishments you did not want to be painted

  13. For inside of journal, measure and cut cardstock and scrapbook paper to fit the dimensions of the inside of the journal. Glue into place.
  14. Mixed Media Journal - cover the inside of the journal cover with scrapbook or cardstock cut to fit, glue in place
