My Dog Eats Socks and Bras?

My chocolate lab is 7 months old now and he has eaten, well actually -- swallowed whole, every pair of socks that I or my kids have tried to hide from him (he still finds them), and also has eaten 3 of my bras! He eats EVERYTHING!

He has also consumed a whole box of crayons (he had colorful rainbow poop the next day!), mardi gras beads, paper clips, erasers, happy meal toys, etc. Believe me, we spend SO much time hiding things all over the house from him and he STILL finds it! I know that he eats all this stuff mainly WHOLE because, sometimes it will come out in one piece in his stool or he vomits it up...and if I don't catch and clean the vomit in time, he licks it all back up again!

I know this is gross, but this is an everyday thing for me and my family. He does eat his dogfood and gets regular checkups at the vet. He is healthy and happy... but why the heck does he do this?!

Does anyone out there have this problem too?

Jo

This can kill a dog. The dog needs to be kenneled unless he is with you being watched.
Things need to be kept put away--socks and bras need to be kept in the dresser drawers, crayons in the desk draw and kept in a tin.

Hopefully the dog is not pulling open dresser drawers. If he is, you need to be putting the baby latch protectors on them to keep him out.

You need to store everything on high shelves or in locked cabinets. Get the locks for babies.

I also have a black lab, actually I had 2 but had to give one away and let me tell you LABS ARE GOATS! Both are now 7 years old and I still have contact with the lady who took the one due to her scaling a 6ft fence and she has a solid wooden fence in her yard so she does not see things and escapes, both still are sock and panty eaters. When I had them both they ate my micro fiber sofa and love seat, the paneling, the carpet, the kitchen tiles and anything they could get there mouths on. They even ate my kitchen chairs. I would put up wood barriers to keep them from the bathroom and laundry room which they managed to figure out how to open and have managed to bend the metal on my doors so they can pull them open to get at things. I figured it was just a "Puppy Stage " thing and it would stop.

After giving the one away I figured it would slow down as her partner in crime was gone. Nope. She is healthy and so is her sister. All summer she has a acre to run on that is chained linked all they way around and gets plenty of exercise. When she gets her bath she always manages to grab something on her way out the bathroom and scarfs it down before I can grab it from her. By the way all spring and summer I am always taking dead rabbits, opossums , raccoons, squirrels and birds from inside the house that she brings in as she wags her tail so proud of her kill. I have even found a dead squirrel under my pillow she hid as a treat for me. Of all the animals I have ever had my experience with labs have kept me on my toes. But you could not ask for a more loyal and fun dog. Good Luck with your baby goat

Consider a dog a baby. You must keep anything non edible locked up or on a high shelf. Consider gates or crating when you cant be around
