My First Artificial Christmas Tree

Silver Post Medal for All Time! 355 Posts

A decorated and lighted Christmas tree inside a living room. This is the first year in 44 years that I didn't put up a fresh cut Christmas tree. I truly can't believe I caved in and got this artificial tree. Well this year, my health is not good. Not having a significant other now, I rely on my 3 sons a lot. My son suggested, "Mom, you really should consider an artificial tree", not only to make it easier on them but for safety reasons. Well, I caved in and said yes. He bought it and I could not believe how easy it was to set up. But, it just did not look right to me. I had to go to the drawing board and create my real looking tree by filling in those empty spots.

Well, here is what I did. By the way, I usually decorate my Christmas tree in themes every year; by color, ribbons, bows or different decorations. Here are my pictures of what I bought at Michael's and what I did with this beautiful tree that I am now thrilled with. This year my theme was "poinsettias and gold beaded sprays"

Thank you so very much. I fought and fought my husband for 42 years as he bought, stood and fought and cursed at a fresh tree each year. And begged me to get an artificial one and I always said "NO WAY." ha, ha, ha.

But, now being alone, my sons worry so much about me. Oh well a lot of things have had to change. This one was easy. Thank you for your comments and "Have a Happy Blessed Christmas"

I too never liked them. But, after vacuuming up needles and taking the chance of a fire, it was time. For the last 10 years, I have had a fake tree and soon discovered that if I wanted to, I could keep the pretty thing up all year! I just moved it into my bedroom and let the twinkly lights put me to sleep.

For whatever reason we choose to switch, be it safety or sentiment, you will have 44 years of memories that smell like pine and feel like love.

A real Christmas tree is a treat to have in home but for practical purposes and artificial tree can be fun to decorate and you can keep it up longer, you don't have to water it, and you can leave the lights on all night long, if you would prefer to do that. My artificial tree is very small it's 4 feet tall but I use a lot of Garland which is usually the mesh ribbon which I drape around and use wired ribbon to secure it I use large Christmas ornaments to fill in gaps in the tree and it is a very pretty tree and I sit and look at it all day long.

If you want the smell of Christmas Pine or the Christmas sense, you can buy the melting wax bars and use them in your home to fragrance your home. I always go in my yard and pick Pine boughs and bring them in to have a little bit of Nature's Beauty during the holiday season and I sometimes stick some of the pine boughs in my artificial tree. Using a artificial tree or a natural tree is a person's choice.
