Plant Pots for Vertical Garden

Vertical garden pots made from polypropylene.Every year I plant many different vegetables in our garden, but I always lack land. Growing vegetables in pots and even vertically on the wall, is an excellent solution to the problem of lack of land for a vegetable garden. In order not to waste money on buying pots, I decided to make them from a polypropylene woven bag. These pots are suitable for horizontal and vertical garden.

To make these pots, you need a polypropylene woven bag 20-24" x 40", strong thread, a ruler, sewing pins, a felt-tip pen, scissors, a needle or a sewing machine. You will also need an awl and tube for automatic watering, a wooden plank 8 inches long, 0.2 inches thick, 1.5 inches wide, and a sturdy string to hang the pots vertically.

How to make these pots:

  1. Fold the bag along the lengths.

  2. Measure 8.5 inches from the edge - the height of the pots, fold the middle of the bag inward and pin off the fold (see photo).

  3. Measure 2 inches from the side edge, divide the rest into four parts - for four pots. Mark the side borders of the pots with a felt-tip pen.

  4. Sew the marked borders and edges on the sides (see photo).

  5. Unfold the bag and form 4 round pots.

  6. Insert a wooden plank into the pocket from the edge.
For convenient watering when the pots are upright, make holes at the base with an awl and run a tube through all four pots (I used a tube of the medical dropper). Make holes in the tube.

You can now fill the pots with soil and sow / plant vegetables. Drainage is not necessary, as the woven polypropylene of the bag allows excess water to pass through well.

You can arrange the pots in a circle or in a line. It is best to turn these pots into a vertical garden when the plants are a little rooted. Make a hole in the middle after the wooden plank and pass the rope. Tie the ends. The pots are ready to hang.

Great idea, Stella. I was just wondering what I could use to make some of these for my back patio area. Maybe I will need you to save me a couple of rice bags too. :)

This is a great project. I think it would be good to have a collection of them hang one above the other so the vertical garden could be a living wall. If I manage to make them, I will certainly take a photo.
