Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - close up of tree with lightsIf plastic bottles are gifted - they are gifted with many different ways to be recycled. And because it's the Christmas season, I'll make a table top Christmas tree from plastic bottles.

Supplies:

Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - green plastic bottles
 

Steps:

  1. Start by removing the bottom of each plastic bottle.
  2. Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - cut off the bottom of each bottle
     
  3. Cut them into different sizes. 1 bottle should be shorter than the other. This is to emphasize the shape of the tree.
  4. Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - cut them into different sizes
     
  5. Then cut each bottle into thin strips from the bottom to top.
  6. Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - cut each bottle into strips from the bottom to the top

  7. Press or pull down the strips. It should look like this.
  8. Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - press the strips down
     
  9. Glue two bottle bottoms together. This is the base or the stand.
  10. Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - make stand by gluing two bottoms together

  11. The stick I'm using is a balloon stick. Let it stand into the center of the base and secure with glue.
  12. Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - glue a balloon stick or dowel in the center of the stand
     
  13. Stack the layers of plastic bottle strips. Start with the biggest/widest strips and going up is the smaller ones. Secure each layer with hot glue.
  14. Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - stack and glue on the different bottles

  15. Put a star on top.
  16. Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - add a star on the top
     
  17. Just add in some lights and you're done!
  18. Plastic Bottle Christmas Tree - complete with a string of lights

How amazingly clever is this little tree! And if everyone made one that would be a few thousand less bottles to litter our world! The traditionalists like me could use green and the ones who like alternative colour schemes could use any colour at all!
