Poem: "A Night Without the Internet"

I didn't hear the doorbell. I must have been asleep.
I didn't get my package and it almost made me weep.
The box contained my modem. Connectivity was lost.

With life unplugged I didn't know if I could I bear the cost?

No Facebook to check on. No emails could I see.
I couldn't even go and find my favorites on TV.
My website unattended. And Pinterest ignored.
How am I supposed to deal with not checking my board?

The world I knew was over. My evening was doomed.
Surely nothing good could come when tragedy loomed.
Something snapped inside of me. And I remembered that.
I could do some other things and that is when I sat.

I worked offline for hours. Organizing was a dream.
And then I got up off my butt and was my kitchen clean!
I listened to the radio. I began a brand new book.
I took to fabric thread and yarn and even grabbed a hook.

The cat just loved the time I had. To pay attention due.
And without the TV blaring we slept much better, too.
The modem will be here today. And Ill be back on line.
No TV for the summer but with Netflix I'll be fine.

I told Comcast "You're Fired". An epic day for me.
But this uncoupled 24 has plainly made me see.
That I can still remember. What life was like back when.
The things I thought I'd die without were silly even then.

So now the internet is back. And I am back on line.
But good or bad I proudly say that I survived just fine.

Sandi, great poem! I love it. I, too, feel bereft without my computer. Good for you, leaving Comcast. I don't have your fortitude but wish I did.

Maybe one more raise in the rates will convince me to try another option ;-)

Thanks to you both. As for Comcast, I didn't really have a choice. They upgraded their system and since then a lot of people had problems with the website and payments not being processed.

I proved that I paid all of the last three payments on time with my bank statement, that nothing was sent back to them, but they refused to admit it was their fault. Since they delayed my on-time payments so long, they put me 58 days behind and threatened to shut me off. I beat them to the punch and actually took back the modem and DVR, got my receipt, and as I was leaving I turned around and yelled "You're Fired"!

Donald Trump couldn't have done it better!

I am now with Century Link and it's 1/4 the price. The irony is the day I did it, I treated myself to an ice cream cone, and while inside the fast food place, I saw an article about "cutting the cord" and how Netflix was now the number one provider and that streaming providers were gaining ground.

That sure made me feel better about my decision!
