It will certainly get the tape adhesive off; you just have to be cautious about what kind of surface you use it on. Nail polish remover will damage many paints and wood finishes, in particular. It should be safe on most dishes, glass, and so on. If you are not sure, you can do a little test in an area where it won't show. If your surface may damage, you can get the tape residue off with an oil--cooking oil, WD-40 or the like. It may take a little more elbow grease, but it will come off.
