Preparing for Tax Time

A folder with a list of documents for tax time.Don't wait until January to gather your receipts and forms to file your taxes; do it throughout the year and save yourself time and the grief. Using a two pocket folder, with a medium tipped marker, write the word "Taxes" and whatever year on the folder. If the folder will be in a filling cabinet, be sure to write it where you'll see it at a glance.

Write a check list of the documents you'll need when is time to file. As you get your documents, place them inside the folder. I prefer using a poly folder since they're more durable than the paper ones. Also, I try reusing my kids' folders for this after the school year has ended. No sense in spending more money than necessary.

We do this too. My husband is an accountant. Our taxes have to be organized, as he is busy straightening out everyone else's messy paperwork.
