Recipe for a Dog With Kidney Problems

I have been feeding my dog with kidney failure the following recipe: five ounces of ground round, two boiled eggs, two cups of cooked rice, three slices of white bread and chicken. For a couple weeks he has not wanted to eat the food I cook for him. He will eat other food though. Would there be a problem substituting potato for the rice in his recipe? Thank you.

Please contact the veterinarian who diagnosed kidney failure and ask what you should feed this dog. Science Diet has a good food for this called K/D and they also have a recommended homemade food. Ask your vet. (07/13/2009)

Depending on the type of disorder your dog has, he needs a low protein diet, and you need to check with your vet to see what you can feed him. If he is not wanting to eat, then there is a reason for that, maybe he is getting sicker. Animals won't eat when they know there is something wrong. (07/13/2009)
