Remedies for Nail Polish on a Couch

I left some nail polish out with the lid on, but some kids found it and started painting lessons on the couch! To save myself from an eternity without nail polish, I came on this site. My sister and I used nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, and toothpaste! It worked! It took a loooong time of scrubbing and cotton balls but when you use them all, it works. Just remember to wash off all the toothpaste or it is sticky.

Good luck :)

I just noticed this dried nail polish from painting toenails this past weekend. Must have toppled the polish without even noticing until tonight, Tuesday. Panicked since sofa sectional is just a couple of years old. Tried to scrape it off, didn't work. Soap and water didn't work. Nail polish remover didn't work. Then I googled. Found this article. Tried it (polish remover, alcohol, and toothpaste). WOW! It worked! And it was easy! So glad I decided to Google for a this solution to my problem. It really does work. And it didn't take much scrubbing at all. I did use a regular wash cloth instead of cotton balls. It seems to have worked. Can hardly wait until it completely dries.

How do I actually see on Thriftyfun and read the solutions that others have posted? I am only seeing the response to the solutions.

and the amounts of each? The nail polish is on the side of the sofa on the nubuck material and the plastic parts for the recliner lever.

My daughter spilt bright red nail varnish on my beige cord sofa! Nothing was working, so I tried this! Used vodka, toothpaste and nail polish remover mixed and applied with an old toothbrush! It has worked!

Fantastic...used Acetone Nail Polish remover, rubbing alcohol, windex and at the very end, toothpaste. After fire engine red polish had been wiped on my beige microfiber couch, I was convinced I'd never get it out.

I think it's all out now...thanks to this site! Love!

Did you mix the acetone alcohol & tooth paste or do three different applications?

Do you mix them together or use them separately? And if so which one first?

I can not even begin to explain what a life saver this was. My daughter spilled bright red finger nail polish on a light colored couch, that isn't even mine! I freaked out! I saw this and figured it wouldn't work because nothing else did, but boy was I surprised!

I mixed the toothpaste, alcohol, and polish remover, and scrubbed with an old toothbrush and it came clean in minutes! Thank you so much for this!

Thank you! This worked a miracle!! I dropped a Red fingernail polish bottle and it shattered, splattering red polish all over a beige couch ~ nightmare. I used this formula and some manual labor (scrubbing with a toothbrush) and good as new. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

What alcohol did you use?

I believe it is isopropyl or rubbing alcohol. I would get the 91% or 99% as it is the most effective.

July 6, 20190 found this helpful

Did you mix them together or just switch it out?
