Remedy for Stomach Bloating?

Bronze Feedback Medal for All Time! 157 Feedbacks

I've always had a problem with stomach bloating. I'm not overweight, BMI of 22. A bloated stomach looks awful and can be uncomfortable. I'm a vegetarian and I'm aware some foods I eat will contribute to this problem and that I also need to chew my food properly, but this has been going on for years. Clearly it is not life threatening, chuckle, but such a nuisance! Has anyone had this problem and solved it?

Well, you certainly sound healthy so what can you do about the bloating?
Certainly, everyone's body functions are different but some simple suggestions might help you understand what might be causing the bloating and some might even help stop it.
I feel sure you have researched this but since we do not know what remedies you have already tried or even what you typically eat while on your daily diet it would be difficult to just say - try this...

I do have a friend that was in a similar situation and her doctor told her to discontinue all raw vegetables for two weeks and see if that helped - if it did not help then she would know to look for items other than raw vegs.
If it helped then she could slowly add one raw veg and wait at least two weeks to see if it caused problems.
I do not remember the results but I don't think she still has the problem.

My daughter is not a vegetarian but she occasionally had this same problem and she added probiotics and Greek yogurt to her diet and this really helped her.

There are some really good sites (you've probably seen them all) to help with understanding that this does happen and can continue for a long time and - usually affects women the most.
Since this is not usually a 'dangerous' health problem you might want to be sure you've tried everything possible but also that whatever you try you give it at least 6-8 weeks to see if it works.

I feel like you have answered your own question. A lot of vegetarians have this issue from eating too much raw vegetables that promote bloating. I am not sure the vegetables you are eating so this one would be sort of hard to tell you which one to eliminate from your diet to see if this helps at all. One of the problems with a vegetarian diet is that the diet is high in FODMAPs.

If you continue on as a vegetarian it is best if you consult a Registered Dietitian or Doctor to identify the contributing factors causing bloating and providing an individualized treatment plan. They will know your diet, what you are eating and then work with you to regulate these problems.

Everyone is different! This requires a professional (Doctor). A person would be taking a chance on telling you what to do to your body in comparison to there body.
