Removing Cooking Grease Smell from Clothes

My husband works for Chili's and his work clothes always reek of old nasty cooking oil. I wash them in solution of 1/4 cup of Dawn dish washing detergent, 1 cup of lemon scented ammonia and 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide in the hottest water your clothing article will allow.

Fill your washer before adding clothes. Add the articles of clothing, but don't overload. You want to give the solution a chance to work its way into the clothing, aprons, towels, etc. Let the articles sit in the machine full of hot water and solution for approximately 20 minutes then start your machine as usual. Do not add fabric softener because, after you have run the entire wash cycle, you are going to wash your items in your regular laundry detergent and add your softener.

Your work clothes will smell amazing. I hope this is helpful, good luck and wear your great smelling work clothes in great health.

For anyone finding this through google after a long term problem like me... the first thing I tried was oxiclean odor blaster and that seemed to help, but I didn't like the way they smelled. It seemed as if they were a mix of oxiclean and the grease smell. I admit I didn't want to soak clothes in oxiclean because the grease smell is on ALL of my clothes! So, I would have had to deal with colors being dulled. Just yesterday I tried 1 spoon of dawn dish soap and 1 cup lemon ammonia and the clothes are coming out smelling very very clean from the washer and then very very neutral from the dryer which I think is the answer, finally.

For background, I have a boyfriend that loves frying a little too much. Our apartment is small and the grease would fly under the bedroom door AND under the closet door. So if you're here for the same problem, get door sweeps from Walmart as well. They're like $5.

Hoping this is finally my solution! Getting real tired of having to do the sniff test on "clean" clothes!!!

It scares me to use ammonia with any other chemical, but your solution kinda makes sense. It's just time consuming, washing twice. But I will try it! Thanks!

Does the dawn soap make suds overflow the machine? Some of our clothes have fish oil odor really bad after I left a fish oil supplement in a pants pocket and washed it! yikes!

You should never mix ammonia and hydrogen peroxide together.
