Removing Dawn Dish Detergent Residue from Carpet?

If you're seeing the color from the Dawn soap, there must be a lot of it used, and putting water on it as that's the only way to rinse away soap, then blotting it up with old towels or rags many times over will remove the soap, and, or, you can put a diluted fabric softener (fabric softener diluted in water where there's no color to the fabric softener, as you don't want more colors laid down ) and that will help tame down the suds.

You could also use a wet-dry vac to suck up the excess water you've used to remove the soap - make sure it's not a regular
vacuum, they're not made to suck up water.

Something that's happened to me in the past is, if you don't "remove all the soap", those "spot cleaned areas", well,
if there's soap residue left in your carpet, those seem to be a
magnet for any dust or dirt, and those spot treated areas will
appear dirty sooner than later.

It appears that you've used way too much soap on your carpet. The only way to do this now is with a bucket of water and a sponge. You need to blot the rug to remove the soap from it. After using the sponge in water, soak the area and try to remove as much water with the sponge.

It does appear that you used too much Dawn and even if no stain is left you will have to remove the excess soap or it will eventually damage your carpet.

• As everyone has mentioned, water and absorbent cloths will have to be used to remove the soap residue.
• You can add a cup of white vinegar to your water and that will help cut the soap.
• Try dipping a cloth or sponge in your water/vinegar solution and dampen the area of the stain - do not pour water on the spot as it may be too difficult to remove all the water and your carpet will be wet for a long time.

• If you get it too wet just keep placing towels on top and either stand on towels or weigh it down with something that water will not harm (not books).
• You can place a fan near the spot to help it dry faster.
• Use the "dirty" towels/cloths in your next laundry tub and use less soap or no soap.

Dawn works great. Smells good and looks clean. I ways use the spray dawn so I can control how much is on the carpet. Works great for stains on clothes too!
