Removing Sharpie From Clothing

I have Sharpie stains on my clothes. How do I remove them? I have tried all kinds of stain removers. The stain is on a new night gown. Thanks for the help in advance.

My sister was a nurse and would get ballpoint and Sharpie ink on her white uniform. She always sprayed hairspray on the spots and then washed. You could never see any spots when she dried them. She also would not dry them if all of the spot didn't come out. She would spray again and wash and it always came out. Hope this helps. (05/21/2009)
