I use Blue Dawn and rub it into the stain. Wash as usual.
Dawn works very well on greasy spots. If that doesn't do it, try rubbing in some mechanic's hand cleaner - like D&L Hand Cleaner, scrub with an old toothbrush, then wash as usual.
How easy it will be to remove an oil stain will depend on the type of material as well as how old the stain is and whether the garment has ever been dried in the dryer.
I would try either liquid laundry detergent or Dawn dish soap.
Use liquid and let it soak in for an hour or so before washing as usual.
I have also used a paste of baking soda on the stained area keep slightly damp for several minutes and then wash as usual.

If the plain blue Dawn doesn't work the first time, lay down a layer of blue Dawn, a layer of baking soda (1 TBSP) and then pour 1 TBSP of plain white vinegar over the spot and with your fingers gently massage it into the stain (from the front and then turn it over and massage it in from the back). Then let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary.
My hubby gets oil stains on his shirts and this usually gets them out the first time...although if it has sat for a few days or worse, gone through the wash and dryer first, then sometimes the stains are permanent.
The last resort (if it is not a color shirt as this may ruin the color) is to use 1/3 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1/3 cup baking soda and 1 cup of cool water (stir up good) and soak the shirt stains in that mix (pour over and let it sit for 15 minutes then rinse).
If you go this route and the shirt is a color--test it in an inconspicuous part like the back hem before proceeding as this can bleach out the stain AND the color which is bad).
Line dry in the sun or from the shower rod. Do not dry in the dryer until the stains are gone.
