There is a dryer sheet stuck to my gas dryer drum. I was able to pull part of the sheet off, but now a sticky layer remains! What is the best way to remove this residue?

Use a product called Goo Gone and rinse carefully.
Cooking oil like Pam or even WD40 works well in this one. Spray the area wit hthe cooking oil or WD40 and use an old sock to clean it up with.
Ice is another great way to remove sticky substance from your dryer. Just apply the ice and when it is hard peal it off.
Take a warm,wet cotton washcloth with a drop of blue Dawn and gently rub the sticky off. Then take a second clean wet cotton clothe with warm water (NO DAWN) and wipe off the Dawn residue.
I would not use anything else in my dryer for fear it would create its own issues and get on my clothes, or worse, start a fire.
Original blue Dawn dish soap may work (as Pghgirl suggested) but you might also try a cloth dipped in vinegar and hold it on the sheet for a couple of minutes. This may soften it or maybe try a paste of baking soda and water and then clean with clear water.
This is a gas dryer so I would be very careful about what to use as many products are flammable and these dryers can get very hot.
Have you determined why this happened?
Try using vinegar or liquid softener in your final rinse and avoid the sheets.
