Repairing the Seam on a Wonder Table Bench Seat?

Repairing the Seam on a Wonder Table Bench SeatI need help repairing my, new to me, bench seat for a Wonder table my aunt gave me. I'm decent at sewing, but have never tried anything like this before. Any help would be amazing. I don't even know where to start. I think I need heavy duty waxed thread, and a curved needle. I just need to figure out how to hide the little strings where it is ripped apart, do I cut them or just sew and tuck them underneath? Please help!

it is not that difficult to repair the tear in the seat of your Wonder Table.

  1. You will need a U shaped leather or plastic upholstery needed.
  2. Go to the fabric store and purchase upholstery grade thread in the color of your fabric.
  3. Thread your needle and tie a small knot at the end of the thread.
  4. Start at one end of the tear and put the needle up from the underside the tear and push it up to the top of the fabric.
  5. Make small stitches to sew the tear back together. Each time you will use the needle to gently push the stuffing back under the tear. Then make your stitch. You will be working from the top of the fabric and going from right to left to follow the stitch pattern.

  6. Continue like this until the tear is mended.
  7. The seam that is torn has a stitch pattern established. Continue with this pattern so that the seam stitching looks even.
  8. If you are afraid to try this there is a product on the market called Tear Mender. This is a glue that can easily repair tears in clothes, leather, or even vinyl seats. You can see the product here and watch the video. This might be a better option for repairing your seam. www.vat19.com/.../tear-mender-instant-fabric-adhesive

I would not cut the string, but put it back inside.Use the waxed thread and curved needle.
You can also by leather repair kits in the automotive store.

This is a stress point on your table so it may take more than just repairing with thread.

  • I would suggest going to an auto parts store and looking at all of their repair kits/supplies.

  • When repairing a tear at a stress point it is usually recommended to place a "filler" fabric under the tear before doing any kind of final repair so you might want to think about this.
  • If you go to several auto parts stores you may find someone that has experience with leather/vinyl repairs as first hand knowledge can be very helpful.
  • Do not be in a hurry to do this repair as it is very difficult to undo once completed.
  • Another place you might visit is a saddle shop (usually found where they sell saddles and maybe other farm/western gear) as they usually have a lot of experience repairing tears in leather.

It is possible you may want to use a glue and a stitch repair so you have double reinforcement.
