Repurpose Old Food and Storage Lids for Paint Palettes

Repurpose Old Food and Storage Lids for Paint Palettes - colored soda and water bottle caps on a squarish container lid as another optionIn lieu of buying paint palettes, why not make your own? I have used paper plates before, but all the paint tends to run together eventually. With just a few supplies, you can have a palette that keeps the paint separated and is perfect for any age to use. The best part is by using these, it is helping the environment by not disposing of all those plates!

Steps:

  1. Place the bottle caps onto the lid to determine exactly where you want each one to be. Pick up one at a time and hot glue them back down. This one is made out of an old storage bowl lid and yellow soda caps.
  2. Repurpose Old Food and Storage Lids for Paint Palettes - small bottle caps arranged on larger lid

  3. You can also use milk or juice jug lids. And using different colors can allow for younger kids to match the paint to the cap.

  5. If you want the paint brush rinse cup on the palette, simply leave off the middle bottle cap. It helps not to glue the cup down though, as it has to be emptied and rinsed frequently.
  6. Repurpose Old Food and Storage Lids for Paint Palettes - middle lid can be left off to make room for a plastic cup for rinsing the brush

  7. If you have a child who likes painting at an easel, hot glue a soda cap onto the bottom of the lid. This will provide a knob to better hold onto the palette.
  8. Repurpose Old Food and Storage Lids for Paint Palettes - a small lid can be glued to the bottom for holding the palette

  9. A Cool Whip or butter lid also work wonderfully as a palette. The latter is in the main photo.
