Saving Takeout Condiments

A small container with packaged butter pats from takeout. When I order take out, I ask for complimentary condiments to go with our meal. These condiments add up and sometimes I don't even have to buy these ingredients.

I just cleaned our kitchen table and found that we have 2 cups of butter and some parmesan cheese and crushed red peppers packets. I also have some ketchup in the fridge.

Not only are these little packages useful, but they can be convenient for picnics, packaging your child's lunch, or on the go - in addition to using at home for everyday cooking. Same applies to utensils.

I bought these metal tin containers for 90% at Target since they were a part of the Easter theme. They come in useful for organizing.

I dont think it is right to take more than you need. If they put it in a take out bag thats one thing but to ask them take it home seems a little greedy

Sometimes when I ask for catsup, mustard hot sauce etc.. The help winds up putting a whole handful in the bag. I was taking them back then found out they usually throw away returns to avoid having some that were tampered with.

When I go through a drive through I usually don't have time to weed out all the extras. They over give even when I specify just 2 packets.

No, I do not physically grab these condiments. I need them to go with the meal. They give you a lot so I always have extra.

I don't ask for every condiment just ones I need to go with my meal. I don't mind the extras. :)

This is my experience too. You ask for one and they throw in 3 or 4.

I like to save the parmesan packets that come with pizza. I never ask for them or want to add them to my pizza but I can't waste them.

They come in handy to add to a salad or any cheese dish I may be making. And small packets of condiments are wonderful for camping so I always save any extras that make it home for that purpose.

Yes, that is my experience as well. They'll ask if you want ketchup. I'll say yes. But I am not specific with the amount because they're usually in a hurry and cannot stop to count and just toss in whichever amount they grabbed. However, some places like Chick Fil A will ask your exact amount when ordering so that's nice.

The packets do come handy for packing any lunch on the go, or camping like you mentioned!

These add up fast, even in containers where you are keeping them. I have to clean out the area from time to time in the fridge, because they go bad or just more than we will use.

Just remember if you already have a few sauce packs, before you ask for more.

Yes, it depends on the sauce packets I need. Some cases I order take out but don't eat it at home and a friends/family members. Then, the left over I'd bring it home. It all depends. :)

My tip overall means condiments add up quickly & can be used and are useful.

I feel you are actually paying for the butter, mustard and other condiments by the high price of the food. I would rather spend a 2.00 at Wal-mart and get a pound of butter that is legit.

I don't use butter much in our household.

But yes, the cost of take out (I got this from a restaurant) and with the tip I left even for to go, it's like me paying for the cost of the utensils and condiments, so I don't consider it stealing because it is used toward the meal. But, there is always extra.

The way I see it is, you're going to pay for these condiments one way or another. Their cost is included in the price of the meal. If lots of condiments are taken, you will eventually pay for them in the form of a price increase for the meal. Restaurant and franchise owners want to make a decent living, just as you. Their profits can be marginal. A lot of people taking a lot of condiments could affect the owners life style.

When I ate out (rarely), I was always given two packets of sugar for my coffee. I don't use sugar in my coffee. I brought the sugar home. I paid for it. It is mine. I make no apologies. Whether I use the sugar in the restaurant or at home makes no difference. I paid for it, I can use it as I choose.

At the other far end is another scenario. If you get extra condiments by asking for them or grabbing several from a self serve container with the intentions of hoarding them at home in an effort to save on your grocery bill, then this is wrong, in my opinion.

Your grocery bill is your responsibility, not Hardee's or TGIF's. If everyone did this, the owners would probably have to close.
