Photo Description When I took it out in early spring, it still had green growth on it. I removed the dead parts and placed the plant on the porch table. It did not take long for it to start new growth. When the nights dropped down in the 30s I put the plant inside the house and set it back outside the next day. After the plant filled out, I hung it on the porch in the sun. It really started growing and within a week, it was filled with flowers. In the fall, when it's time to take it in, I plan to place it under the house again and see if I can keep it through another winter.
Last fall, when it came time to take this petunia plant down, I trimmed it back and placed it under the house, right inside the crawlspace door to see if I could keep it through the winter. Keeping a check on it, I watered it a little a couple of times.

More flowers than people realize can be overwintered this way and revived in the Spring. I applaud you for experimenting. You done good!
I like your detailed account of how you accomplished this... and the photo is very nice. A lot of first year plants don't look this lush and healthy. Me thinks the lady has two green thumbs.

I read that you need to cut petunias back in July so I'm fixing to give them a whacking. Photo taken July 4. Will let you know in a couple of weeks how they are doing.
I have cut the petunia plant back and have it soaking up some water. It was getting very thick. I will let you know what happens.
Petunias can withstand being cut back hard. And what with all the deadheading you will accomplish in the process, you plant should look good as ever, soon.
Thanks, Likekinds. My petunia plant is growing and has more blooms on it now. It still has a ways to go before it gets as pretty as it was in the spring.
This is an update from me cutting this plant back first of July. As I hoped for, it is growing and producing more blooms and should be pretty until time to take it down.
