What is the shelf life for the bottles of bubbles? How long do the bubbles usually last in the tub and is there a specific amount I need to use?

According to an employee of Bath and Body Works, I was told their products have a shelf life of about 2 years. If you made your own without preservatives, I would think it would be less.
I have had bubbles (like from the drug store) that last for 4-5 several years when the bottle wasn't opened. Open, they lasted up to 3 years. If they smell funny or change color toss them.
