Shopping for Eating Utensils for the Visually Impaired?

Visually Impaired Reader Using Magnifying GlassHas anyone thought of forks that have LED lights that shine towards the plate? My husband has RP, and I was thinking of something to help him. I think it would be a great idea. I'm not out to make money, just to help me husband have a normal meal. Even a plate could light up the food, that would work also. So if anyone knows of something like this please let me know. I know many others could benefit from this. Thank you.

YES indeed! Go to glowsource.com and you can find glowing handles on plastic flatware utensils with different colors to choose. They have a one pc. set under $2.00 Also, you can buy inexpensive clear "LED light up plates" that has several colors and 16 oz plastic tumblers. Hope this greatly helps the need.

i know this may not be a permanent solution but it might work temporarily until something better comes along.
I have a very dark house when lights are out and although I use a couple of night lights, I have some dark 'furniture' areas that cannot be seen at night.

My daughter has several sets of the small battery operated Christmas light sets that she places on/over the dark furniture that is in the path toward the kitchen area as well as the doors.
These smaller sets are not overpowering but show up on the dark spaces and I can see everything and very important feature is that my eyes do not have to get 'adjusted' to the light.

Maybe you could arrange a small set around your husband's plate and even on the border if it is wide. I tried this to see how it looked and it seemed to light up the plate area. For 2 or $3 it might be worth a try. Walmart has sets in all sizes.

Medical supply stores have a lot of different 'helpers' so you might check these out for lighted silverware and other items. These can be found online also.

Hope you find something that helps.
