Starting a Home Care Business for Seniors?

Hello, my name is Jacqueline. I have been working as a PSW caring for seniors in their homes for over 22 years, and want to open my own business. I was planning to name it "My Home My Castle Home care Services." What do you think, or what should I name my business.

This is just a personal opinion, but I don't think "My Home My Castle Home Care Services" is the best name for your new business. You've come to the right place for excellent suggestions. I've seen lots of fantastic business names suggested here. I think the name you choose should indicate that it is a home care service for seniors. I would choose a name such as Helping Hands Senior Care or Caring Hearts Senior Care. I wish you much success with your new business.

The name makes me think you are caring for them in your home, which you arent. Maybe Royalty At- Home Care?

I have been giving this a lot of thought. In the past, I would just rattled off a few clever ideas and hope for the best for the asker. I don't think that is doing you (the asker) justice.

Are you in the US? If so, I urge you to contact your local small business development center (SBDC) and start taking advantage of their free (and very low cost) services to help you start your business. They will help you with a name that suits your town, your ideal client, and is not taken in your state. They will also help you find the right web domain so you can have an internet presence and get you access to the legal stuff you will need.

A home care business (I worked in one for 4 years) is very complex, and requires licenses and permits, and insurances and many, many more things than just a name and a logo.

The name needs to reflect your ideal clients and speak to them in their language. For example, are you targeting the person him/herself finding you--where the person is a senior? That audience is much different thank if you are targeting the adult child of a senior parent who needs help for their family member.

The name you suggested may resonate with men ages 75 and up who lived by this motto and that may do you well if you are expecting men over 75 to reach out to you directly for their care needs.

However, you are aiming for the 30-50 year old children of a senior in need--they would swipe right by that name because it does not resonate trust or care, it is just some phrase they may or may not even know.

The company I worked for had hospital in the name, because we specialized in post hospital care. Is that something you are going to do?

Are you a rehab specialist? That would be important in the name. Are you serving only one city? If so, maybe include the city in your name. Without knowing who your IC (ideal client) is, anything I suggest is meaningless.

The logo of my former company also looked very similar to a popular (in my town) insurance company logo because people related good services and positive feelings from that logo. Ours was just different enough that there was no trademark violation.

There are many things to think about, which is why I suggest if you are in the US, you need your SBDC to help. If you are not in the US, your country should have some sort of program to help small business owners--research that and reach out for help!!

That will give your new business the best underpinnings possible!

Blessings on your venture!

Your name needs to make it clear that you are a PSW and not a home for seniors.
Most likely who ever (clients) are looking for this type of worker will know what the PSW stands for.

I had meant to add the following link to my answer:
www.carepathways.com/.../starting-a-home-care-agency-business...

You may not be going to actually start a 'business' but maybe have 2 or 3 clients? This may be possible to do without going through all the loops that starting a licensed business requires. The link above also has a link to contact for whatever state you live in for license information.
Many states also require insurance covered that would cover any 'mistakes' that may occur.
Also, if you plan to take any client shopping in your personal car that could present another problem as you may need to update your insurance to cover this.
There is also the business end of dealing with your personal taxes and paying your SS and Medicare taxes.
Hope you are ready for all of this but here's hoping you can get it all going and be able to enjoy your work.
Stay safe.
