We had a few beautiful bowls around the house that weren't being used for anything. I decided to use two of them for our onions and garlic cloves. Now they are easily accessible for cooking with and it gives me a reason to have the bowls that I love out on the counter. :)

This is beautiful; however, onions and garlic should be kept in a dark cabinet or closet with nothing wrapped around them or any light. I keep my onions in a mesh magazine file holder in a lower cabinet for MONTHS!! Like this one: www.amazon.com/
I also display my onions & garlic; however I stack new ones under the older ones & I use the onions soon. But I will start putting the garlic away with potatoes.
I used to put onions in a pantyhose leg, with a knot tied between each onion. They kept a long time like that, because they weren't touching each other.
