I have a new wool sweater that gets lint all over the shirt I wear under it. Any suggestions to stop this?

I never have freezer space, so I have not tried it...and I actually stopped wearing wool because of this problem so it became a moot point for me...but I have a friend who swears by freezing them in a zipper bag overnight before you are going to wear it.
There a ton of websites that tout my friend's advice, so I am assuming that is where she came up with it. She says it works. I would be worried it would smell like whatever is in my freezer, but she said overnight that isn't going to happen.
I would wash the sweater by hand and lay it out to dry. A lot of the loose fibers will come out
