If the Stem Snaps Off of an Avocado Will the Plant Die?

If the stem snaps off at the pit on a 1 1/2 foot potted avacado plant does it mean that it will die?

This depends on several things.

Step 1
You can dig up the pit and check the roots. You can also look at the pit and see if there is any of the trunk left.

Step 2
If there isn't any of the trunk left and you still see the pit from the tree it is more than likely this won't make it.

Step 3
If you dig up the roots and the pit is gone, but you can still see a small truck and root system, this tree might grow again.

Step 4
I would check the roots and the trunk where it was broken. Verify that the trunk or the remainder of the trunk still has roots. Keep the roots in the soil and try taking care of it. You can try to survive this small trunk and it might grow again. There is no guarantee that it will grow again. All you can do is try.

I actually had a small avocado plant growing really nice and when I was moving the water hose the plant completely broke in two , the whole head of the plant was gone and you could see just the stem

a sprout from an avocado pit I had grew about 6-7 inches had some small leaves, and then unfortunately a ball landed on it and it was damaged, and since withered away. Its now been a couple of weeks with care and no progress on growing back...
I may give it another month of care to see if any new sprout begins before starting over.
