The Most Welcome Bees - on yellow portulaca

Photo Description
Without bees, there would be worldwide, mass starvation. Their health and their abundance has been in jeopardy for years. I don't follow this issue closely, but I do make mental notes while I'm out gardening.

I haven't seen large numbers of bees foraging since I was a child. And it's been that long since I've seen a swarm. I was very surprised this morning to see a large congregation all about my portulaca. I had no idea they liked portulaca so much. And judging from their bulging pollen sacs, there's plenty for everybody.

I learned a good thing this morning. I will be sure to plant portulaca in the same place next year. And I will plant more in other places as well

Save the bees! What a beautiful photo. Look at those big, silky flowers they're hugging.

Did I ever tell you about how there were thousands of bees in our bedroom on our honeymoon? HONEYmoon! No, we did not order them, and yes, beekeeper protective outfits were used in the making of this video:

Follow this issue closely because the biggest bee killer is your neighbor, it is Bayer. There is another reason why you should watch this closely, because if you look carefully in Bayer's past you will learn that Bayer hasn' killed bees only, and that it is every human being's duty to keep on remembering what Bayer did and why you can't trust Bayer. Bayer is nothing else than IG FARBEN. Never heard of them ? Well you'd better check !

Saving the bees, caring for the bees, protecting the bees is a first step. Yes ! they sting ! and it is painfull indeed but you get over this because you know that everyday the bees are working to keep you healthy. Now take one more step and consider a bigger one, the one with a very bad reputation, the hornet... Oh ! No ! No ! Not the hornet ! It is dangerous and useless ...

Wait a minute ! is beer one of your daily pleasures and comforts ? and so is bread ? and so is wine ? Then you have to pay your tribute to the hornets by protecting them. If you can drink beer today and eat bread and drink wine it is because hundreds and thousands of generations of hornets, (in fact female queens hornets) have passed on from one generation to the other the yeast that makes beer and wine and bread. The queen hornet which has been fed with the juice of the grape wine keeps the natural yeast of the grape wine in its body and during the winter (cold winter to which yeast can not survive) the hornet queens feeds the young hornets and transmit them that yeast, which, the now grown up hornets, will pass on in the summer time by feeding on the wine grapes. This is why the european hornet is now strictly protected by law in Germany and soon will be in the rest of Europe. There is another reason why you should take care of the hornets. The European hornet is the only insect able to attack and kill the moth which is actually destroying all the box trees all over Europe, Nothing can be done and hundreds of years old box trees are dying in less than a few days eaten by the caterpillars of that moth. It is terribly sad to see these box trees, which are essential to transmit the art of the gardens ' à la française' or the British topiar art, dying and disapearing from the european gardens and parks.

The good old european hornet, heavy flyer, so easy to kill because he lacks talent to fly fast, so much that you wonder how anyone can manage to get stung, good old european hornet can kill that moth that is destroying the box trees and is the only insect able to kill that moth. Always think that there are others solutions than chemical poisons. Hens for example, stupid hens ! No brains ? Useless ? Really ? They can fight snakes, they can see birds of preys from an incredible distance and protect their little ones by gathering them under its wings and .... and I go back to the main subject : The very agressive asian hornet is invading Europe and he is a bee killer. He flies in front of the bee's nests exits and kill them when they come out of their nest. Bees are intelligent enough to begin to get organized and fight back the asian hornets and manage to kill them but many bees die in these fights. A farmer noticed that indeed his hens were attacking his bees if he would let them go close to the bee's nests but he also noticed that his bees were flying so fast out of their nest that the chickens could not get them easily, but the asian hornets flying by the entrances of the nests were very easily killed by his hens because they are not fast flyers. And through the internet social media came this solution against the terrible bee killer : the asian hornet : just let the hens go to the bee's nests and manage it and it works ! A big majority of europeans are fighting the bee killers chemical products. Do not think that we, europeans, believe that we know better than you do, it is just that french an italians for example, live in small countries and we are neighbors and will more quickly be aware of the invasion of bugs, deseases, invading plants or insects than inhabitants of a large country like America. Watch us, follow us, we are fighting the same ennemies and these ennemies do not know about frontiers.
