Tiny black bugs next to a penny for scale.I live in northeast Ohio and for the last couple of days we have had these small black bugs in our kitchen. They are mainly on the floor around the baseboards. There are a lot of them. Anyone know what they are and how to get rid of them?

I have had these same bugs. I am not sure of the name but I consider them flour weevels. they come in all flour and if you have flour around long enough, they hatch. If you have some old flour, get rid of it, and clean up well.

They are two different types of pantry pests, usually infest old food. Don't forget about old doggie treats. Getting rid of the source and anything they may have infested and thorough cleaning is all that is needed to rid them.

I know this post is old, but wanted to comment because it lead me to what my problem was. Cigarette Beetles! The name is misleading, and I assure you I do not smoke. These beetles will eat any type of food. They also will play dead for a few seconds when disturbed. Their heads are rather small giving them a round, dome shape. They are brownish/reddish upon inspecting more closely. They can also fly.
I believe we got them from bring produce home from the farmers market.

I kept sweeping up little black bugs along one baseboard where I keep my cat's dish and water. I changed the location where I kept his place mat because they were in his water.

I sprayed the area with ant spray and put down moth balls, which seemed to work. After a while they were back.

What are those very small, 1/16 round, with flat bottom, black and some with spots, bugs I've found on my kitchen floor? Usually in large groups. Most are under the dishwasher.

You really have to watch closely to see them move.

You might look at them with a magnifier, and then research carpet beetles. Good Luck!

I don't see a picture. If they are around your dishwasher, you have some kind of a leak. You need to have your dishwasher pulled out to see what is going on and fix it. Save the bugs and put them in a sealed plastic bag.

Bring to a place that sells pesticides. They will help you identify it. When you eliminate food and water resources you will get rid of the bugs.

I have had these tiny bugs on my kitchen floor for 5 days now. I've used fogger bombs, and boric acid around perimiter of floor. I sweep. They seem to be coming out from fridge and stove sides. Nothing seems to be working. Please help me get rid of them. They don't jump or fly. There are hundreds of them.

We had the same problem and it turned out to be weevils, the tiny bugs that are in flour, rice, grains, etc. We emptied out the pantry and sure enough that is were they were coming from.

We threw out the foods that had the bugs, cleaned out the pantry and now they are finally gone. You can google "weevils" and find out how to get rid of these little pests.

Unfortunately, the eggs turn up in bread and flour products -- a reaction against aggressive spraying of pesticides. You can avoid the critters: "freeze" the products for forty-eight hours. You can't freeze some bread, so I keep it in the refrigerator.

You have bedbugs. Throw your mattress out, wash ALL your linens and clothes, bag them up, and pray. Took me a year to get rid of them.

When we moved to our new house several years ago we put several large bags of soft clothing and linens in the unfinished basement which was dirt (mountainside slope).

Eventually we determined that we had imported the tiny biting gnat. when we had bought several bags of fertilizer for our newly dug garden upslope (vegetable).

So, if any of our correspondents, have had to attach sticky 'flypaper' tapes to their lampshades or nearby shelves of potted, tell 'em 'way to go'. It is working for us.

I have these SAME bugs in the rental I live in plus little tiny black dot looking bugs everywhere on floors here. Been here ever since I moved in over a year ago, especially against the bottom outside edge of the tub around the caulking where they can get thru. They end up on my bedapreads, sofa, loveseat ..everywhere close enough to end up from the floor on the surface of furniture. It grosses me out because I am ENDLESSLY dealing with wiping, sweeping, vacuuming and obsessively trying to keep my 3 yr. old little girl from playing with her toys that might need to be wiped off first from these PESTS! I'm just SICK SICK SICK of the daily seemingly hopeless task of trying to keep these things off of our things just to sit down or do anything without having to WORRY over where they r each second. Any luck identifying that tiny "leaf" looking thing?

I have the same bug, they look like tiny black specks but with a magnifying glass you see a bug. I've taken pictures and it's the exact bug you have they were in my whole house but now after three months of diligent hard work 90% are gone. My family had to literally wipe ( I'm disabled) out All of my food in the kitchen (everything) as well as in the fridge because when I brought out the Mayo or milk one of them must have attached to container an infested fridge as well. The freezer was fine. All of my clothing and anything cloth was removed, and bagged and washed. I've also kept out of the spare bedrooms to avoid spreading there. I had to call 2 exterminators and both couldn't identify the bug. Alcohol and water ( 50/50 ) was used to mop my floors ( turn off pilot) and courters. Clean with bleach everyday, vacuum floors everyday and try to eliminate as soon as you see them.

I am guessing that they are drain flies. They are mostly around bathrooms and kitchens. Look up drain flies to find several remedies. They fly very short distances before having to land somewhere. To identify the problem area is detective work. Mine seem to have come from an area that was open around incoming water line to toliet. There was an entrance from beneath the house which is always a bit humid. I was able to find problem area by placing duct tape over open drains in sinks and tubs at night, around intake and out water lines openings around pipes and floors underneath sinks and dishwashers. Anywhere you see any size opening coming in from beneath the house especially if wood and moisture is involved. These are areas where they breed. Sticky side down so if some comes up it would stick to tape. Once area of entrance is found then treat appropriately as recommended on sites googled "how to get rid of drain flies". Short term fix for me while trying to find out what they were and how to get rid of them was 2 things. 1 was black flag sticky fly stick in box that sits on counter, ledge or any pot out of kids and pets way but in area where they are most concentrated. Remember they flutter, fly, short distances at a time before landing. But there is something in the stick that attracts them and no they are not fruit flies that I thought they were and was accustomed to around fruits and veggies in the kitchen. Any if you do have fruit flies around fresh fruit ,they probably hitched a ride from the grocery store when they all of a sudden appear from nowhere around fresh product. This short term treatment will work for them also. If you do not like the look or idea of the sticky fly stick, the other short term treatment that works for both but need to be closer to area being concentrated on(sink or counter for fruit or in both if heavy and not sure). There are specific measurements of different ingredients on internet sites. The most seen and I quote from too many sites to give credit to is... in a small container or lid big enough to hold mix equal parts sugar or corn syrup, white or cider vinegar, water and 5 to 10 drops dishwashing liquid. They are drawn to mixture, crawl in and drown. Some suggest covering bowl with plastic wrap and cutting small holes in it. I had better success with fly stick and uncoveed solution which I changed out every 4 to 5 days unless there were a lot floating around. The solution seemed to attract more on the 2nd and 3rd days. Drain flies are large and more fuzzy looking than fruit flies. Fruit flies live longer and multiply quickly. Drain flies don't live as long but each lays hundreds of eggs that hatch into tiny worms(not the scientific version but I am sure you get the images). Ok back on track. Above were now and short term treatments. If you have drain flies, you will have to have a long term clean them out plan. Clean your drains cheaply but with work and persistence with treatment recipes on line using baking soda vinegar and boiling water down each open drain and close when not in use if you have done the duct tape test and determined the culprit. I went to battle and treated t hy sm all, plugged all the openings around pipes with a foam spray you can buy. There are expensive drain cleanser on line my daughter used with great success. But if you dont want to use chemicals or have more time than money like me, use what you have or buy what you can use for other purposes. For a most permanent solution, I did not like the idea that I may probably have a breeding nest under my house. People without crawl spaces and wooden foundations, you are at the end finally! For people with crawl spaces , check or have checked the area under your house to ensure flooring is not moist or rotting. If so this presents an opportunity for drain flies to breed. Clean out any loose debris or replace flooring that is bad. Put down clear thick plastic on ground under house and pin down so rain water, animals and ect cant move it out of place. Orkin provides an inspection free and will put down barrier for a charge if you are unable or doesn't know of some one who isn't afraid to go under houses. All materials can be purchased at hardware stores....or Amazon.com.Watch for my upcoming YouTube channel on "Mama Knows a Lot Now."
Finally the last. Thank you!
