Using a Linoleum Knife to Edge Grass - defining edge of garden and removing invading grass I learned to use a linoleum knife in the garden from my mother, who had learned it from her father. It is a handy tool for grass edging, weed removal, digging rocks out, and many other things. It makes quick work out of even the weediest garden. You definitely need to give it a try!

That looks like a great tool to have. I have been using an old steak knife for pulling grass in the garden.

If you have tough sod to clear out for a garden, put an old rug over the area for two or three months. The difference will be amazing; soft as fresh compost.

I didn't know what this was I thought it was maybe for removing grout but I think I found it when we cleaned out a great Uncle's house. I thought maybe it was like a Skythe or something and I decided to try it where the lawn had been growing over the sidewalk.

I'd love to find a bit larger one... it did a good job but so small I worked for a couple hours on not that large of an area but pleased with the results

Once the blades get larger, they start to be called bill hooks or billhooks. Check out series of documentaries from the BBC on farming. Tudor Monastery farm, Victorian Farm, Wartime Farm and Tales from the green valley (Amazon or youtube). The bill hook is a primary tool.
