If you can prove it is real silver, it will sell. Silver will not stick to a magnet. This article tells other ways to test for silver: www.moneymetals.com/
You could try taking it to a pawn shop and ask if it is silver or silver plate and the weight (they may tell you a value - to them) but be careful as there are crooks everywhere.
