Value of a Lane Cedar Chest?

Value of a Lane Cedar Chest? - vintage legged cedar chestI would like to know the value of this cedar chest and if it's considered an antique. It was given to my mom years ago when she became engaged. So I am thinking it was made years ago. She got married in 1953. So it had to be made well before that I am thinking.

Very well made! Not an antique. Antiques are 100 years old, by most definitions. Your piece is vintage 1950s (since you said it is from around the time when they were married).

This style is called a colonial style or most commonly a queen anne style and it is a low boy blanket chest.

I have not been able to find this exact one (ones very similar) on all of the sites I frequent.

There are a lot of the Lane catalogs online so you may even be able to find an ad for it when it was new. Their ads are very cool!

These sell consistently in the $100-$$300 range.

You will see places like Chairish offering them for much higher, but Chairish is not a good gauge of SOLD prices because they never tell what the item actually sells for.

Thanks for sharing!! Post back how your sale goes!

Cedar chests do still sell but a very low percentage of the total number listed for sale actually sell and no one knows how long any sold item was listed for sale before it sold. Many of these have been listed for many months and a very high number will have been listed for several years as a lot of these are sellers with actually stores and list numerous items each month.

I know of at least 2 very similar chests that have been on my daughter's eBay watch list for over 2 years and have not sold.
Of course, there are exceptions and yours could sell very fast.

This must have been a popular style in the 50's as they made several very similar styes - mostly changing the bottom panel and changing the raised designs.
Here is a link to a beautiful somewhat 'similar' chest listed for sale that you may wish to place a watch to see if it sells. Although your chest does not appear to be in this type of condition it is a good example. I'm mainly listing this item so you can see what type of pictures may be good for you to use.

This also a good example of types of pictures needed.
This has a drawer so that is similar also.

This site has a lot of the Lane ads listed so you might check some of these to see if your chest is shown.

The value of your chest is difficult because the pictures do not show up very good and just looking at these it appears the finish is dulled and, if so, that would lower the value.
My belief is that your chest may be listed between $100-$300 with best offer considered and maybe local pick up so no high shipping would be involved.
Maybe list on sites like Craigslist, USA4Sale, Facebook Marketplace, offerup, letgo and start your price higher and if no offers after several months then lower the price and wait again.

Lane is a very popular brand that has good standing behind there name. This piece online has a asking price of $450 to $525 in good condition. Keep in mind these are asking prices. To be more accurate on your value contact a furniture seller/appraiser. Or there are a few links online - www.justanswer.com/.../justanswer-1 - also here is a look at the online link of a close to similar chest - www.etsy.com/.../vintage-mahogany-tall-lane-cedar...?

Average value ranges between $200 to $500 for this style online.

This is a very nice cedar chest and Lane is a great brand name. A lot of people are no longer buying these types of chests for their homes but there are still some people who still do. Most of the chest that I have seen sell online is only bringing in $135-150. I know a lot of people will advertise their chests for a lot more and some sites will even tell you the value can range from $150-400. You are free to ask what you'd like for the chest but the real value of your chest is based on ones that have sold in the past. Your chest value is $135-150.
