I am big into retro style. I love to wear cardigans. I love accessories. Put them together? Cardigan guards! They're the little chains that keep your cardigans from blowing open and they are so cute. Here is how you can make your own with stuff you might have in your drawers-- demonstrated is two ways!
Total Time: 10 to 30 minutes
Yield: 1 cardigan guard (two options)
Supplies:
- 2 alligator clips
- 1 chain (length is up to you and your taste)
- 2 jump rings
- 1 pair of pliers
- 2 buttons
- 1 needle
- 1 thread
- 1 crotchet hook
- 1 yarn to match cardigan
Steps:
- Take your jump rings and attach the alligator clips to your chain.
- This is obviously a super basic cardigan guard. If you want to pretty it up further, you can hot glue charms to the fronts of the alligator clips. Your cardigan guard is ready to wear!
- This next option is with the use of buttons and, if you're crochet-savvy, crocheting little hooking areas onto your cardigan. You will need 2 buttons, a chain, thread, a needle, a crochet hook and yarn for this method.
- Make a simple chain stitch a little longer than the height of your button. Do another for the other side of your cardigan.
- Attach them to your cardigan.
- Thread the buttons onto the ends of the chain.
- Slip the buttons through your new crocheted loops on your cardigan.
