So our friend told us he had Pit puppies, but they were at a shelter. So we went and got him and named him Duster. He had parvo so we spent thousands of dollars to save him, but we are kinda questioning if the shelter switched the dogs up because his papers said Golden Retriever and not Pit Bull. So I just truly wanna know what y'all think he is.

First - I'm so glad you were the one to adopt this pup and saved him from a terrible death as most people would have just taken him back to the shelter where he would have been put to sleep (even if it is a no-kill shelter).
I hope this pup and your family will have a long and loving future together.
I guess I would have to ask a question- why did the friend take the pups to the shelter?
As far as the information on the papers go, I think it was probably just a mix-up with the papers in the office and has nothing to do with the dogs.
There can be volunteers working in the shelters and although most are hard working and love these animals there are others who are there 'paying' their time (court orders) and may not pay as much attention as they should. Those papers mean nothing - really - except that you got 'a dog' from the shelter on that date.
You are fortunate as you can ask your friend about the parent's breeding but if they do not know (for sure- papers?) then your pup probably has some other breed mixed even if it was several generations back.
I feel sure the vet has some ideas but no one can tell breeding from pictures or even from just 'seeing' the dog as usually the dogs will take on the most prominent breed and the other breeds may never show up. Although a true 'expert' could probably find minor characteristics of another breed.
This fact is the reason they now offer the DNA testing as these tests are the only way to know for sure what is in the background of any animal (or person).
DNA test are available online, most pet stores and your vet so if you really want to know for sure, that is the only way to go.
This information could only be for 'just knowing' as I'm sure it will not make any difference in how you feel about your pup so unless you plan to breed him then?
He certainly looks like the prominent breed is maybe American pit but I'm just a 'looker' and only have opinions but I'm very happy that you were the one who rescued this pup.
This dog is not a golden retriever for sure he is a pit bull. I would go back to the shelter and ask them to give you the correct papers on the dog.

Certainly not much if any Golden Retriever in there - he looks mostly pittie to me (not an expert either!). In any case he's a handsome dog and you are both lucky to have found each other.
