What Is This Tiny Bug?

A tiny round bug on a white fabric surface.I found this on my bed - was very tiny and looked greyish, striped and round. My friend who came over is currently doing a disinfestation of bed bugs at her house so I'm a bit paranoid it could be a bed bug?

Your photo is not the best quality, but if this bug has stripes, then this bug is a carpet beetle. There are different types of carpet beetles. Please, look on the Internet for photos of carpet beetles and compare with your bug.

You may have bed bugs but if this bug is not biting someone then it most likely is not a bed bug. Check all around your bed/mattress/creases for black spots and blood if they have been there a day or so.

This does not look like a bedbug.
Fabric/carpet beetles can be found indoors and there are many species of beetles. Most of them do damages to either fabrics or food stuff and some will eat both.
If your beetle looks anything like this you will need to start trying to find their hiding places. Since this is the first one you've seen hopefully, you will not have a large infestation but the female lays lots of eggs over a short period of time. They can destroy clothing and linens and carpet in a short period of time.

Do a thorough examination of clothing in your closet and drawers as well as any boxes or containers.
If you do not find any more bugs this could have been a 'loner' brought in by someone either in bags, boxes, plants (real or artificial), clothes.

Just keep a close watch and if you find another bug you will have to do a real cleaning job.
You can purchase Diatomaceous earth (food grade only) or boric acid and spread around the rooms along the baseboards and in closets, under furniture and beds, inside drawers and boxes.
Both of these can be purchased online or in most large stores that have a garden department.

If you find more bugs you can check out some links that have other suggestions:

If you decide these are not beetles; take better pictures and ask your question again.

The shape and pattern is a carpet beetle. Vacuum thoroughly and dispose of the bag outside. Use an insecticide. If you are renting, inform the landlord, as it is his/her responsibility.

Signs of bedbugs include bites and bloodstains on your sheets.

When submitting photos asking about bugs, a clear photo as big and as close to the bug, along with a ruler or even a coin next to the bug, will help a lot. It really helps to have a size reference to compare the size of the bug. A "very tiny bug" is not enough to go on for size.

Carpet beetles are pests. They'll eat your clothing! However, they don't bite humans and pose no threat to us physically. Frequent vacuuming and cleaning can keep them away.

I find them walking in my carpet sometimes. I vacuum and they don't come back...well they do if I don't vacuum for 2 months.

I think we probably all agree with you that vacuuming and cleaning is the best line of defense but does this eliminate the problem?
By your own statement, you say if you do not vacuum for 2 months they return...
If they can return in 2 months then it appears they must still be in your house - somewhere - ??
To me - that is the biggest problem because if you do not completely eliminate them they are eating/surviving/reproducing on 'something' during that 2 month period that maybe you have not found what it is as of now...

It is not an easy or short term job to get rid of any type of beetle and I'm glad you mentioned the fact that they do not 'bite' people or pose any physical harm to people or pets.
