It could be a water snake, which isn't poisonous. It would be helpful to know where you are located.

Looks like a copperhead which is poisonous. They have the reddish copper color to them. They can also be just as dangerous after they are killed.

If you get too close to the head it can still bite n invenomate you.

Unfortunately, there are several snakes that look very similar to yours and since the head is missing it may difficult to help you.

• Some snakes are only found in certain parts of the United States (or the world) or even in certain areas so where you are located is very important when trying to identify a snake.

• You may be able to find some information on Google.
• Google snakes in (your zip code) and you should find a lot of sites but state/county government sites usually have lots of information and photos.
• Some of these agencies will let you send a photo for them to identify.

That is a copperhead! 100% Ive killed a bunch of them.

You have probably killed a lot of corn snakes. Copperhead spots are much narrower at the top.

Do you look at the irises in the eyes to see if they are slitted or round? Corn snakes eat mice and small rats. I'm happy when I see them.

The number of people who think "the only good snake is a dead snake" I find tragic and disturbing. Even for the poisonous ones I find "Live and let live" a much better attitude for God's creatures - other than mosquitoes!

Copperhead if that is its head laying beside the body.I can see the venom glands on that snakehead.

Poor thing. It looks like a corn snake/red Rat snake. They eat mice. They are so docile they are sold as pets.

In the U.S. most poisonous snakes are shorter and thicker with a more triangle shape of head, where as most non poisonous are long and slender with a more oval head. A confusing one which is the deadly coral snake and the ringed king snake (there is a very dark green and yellow speckled king also).
